Crime and thriller fiction has always been a passion for the author. As a child, Derrick was hooked by authors like Enid Blyton and characters like the group of child detectives, the Secret Seven. His love of the crime/detective genre continued through his career as a librarian, which facilitated his access to the latest authors and fiction works.
Through his studies at Sydney University, he also developed a passion for historical literature and non-fiction works that enabled him to graduate with a Bachelor of Economics.
After a lengthy career in public libraries, he made a career change and worked as a recruiter for a short, intensive two-year period. The experiences in working with job seekers and client employers inspired him to write his first crime fiction novel, The Recruiter.
Another career change in 2008 saw Derrick join a large multinational corporation in a controversial industry, tobacco products, as a records manager.
Derrick lives in Sydney, Australia, and now aims to complete a novel a year.
